To all who made the 2024 event such a success! We were able to raise almost $6,000 dollars that will go right back to our community to help fund youth initiatives such as college scholarships, leadership camps, and exchange programs.
Stay tuned for details on next year's tourney!
For 18 years, Lyle Northey organized our annual golf tournament now known as the Lyle Northey Fore Kids Golf Tournament. Although his shoes are hard to fill, we will continue Lyle’s legacy of investing in the youth of our community through this annual event.
RYLA
"RYLA is a life altering experience"
Over the years, the North Shore Rotary Club has been able to send over 90 local high school students to RYLA camp. Investing in our local youth is a fundamental part of the North Shore Rotary Club's mission.
What is RYLA Camp? Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a youth leadership camp that gives high school students hands-on active learning activities and sessions to build on their own leadership skills. Pre-COVID, RYLA takes place for a week each summer at the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. RYLA campers come from North Dakota, Northern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin and Ontario. In 2021, RYLA is going online with hopes to safely get back to in person camp in 2022.
MISSION + VISION: Empower youth to lead
RYLA Camp strives to help high school seniors identify, understand, and develop their personal leadership qualities. While students comes to camp at different points in their leadership development, the facilitators and staff work closely with each student to help them build on their strengths. While no camp experience is identical, the focus of camp remains consistent:
-Help campers understand the fundamentals and challenges of being a leader
-Introduce and refine leadership skills (e..g, communication and problem solving)
-Encourage campers to take active and positive roles in their communities
It is operated and staffed by volunteer Rotarians, Rotaractors, and past Rylarians from Rotary International District 5580 (which includes all of North Dakota, the northern half of Minnesota, and portions of Wisconsin and Ontario). RYLArians incur no cost for attending this week of great learning because Rotary clubs, like the North Shore Rotary Club, sponsor local young leaders.
Your support and contributions will enable us to fund several of our youth initiatives. Thank you for considering a donation!
